The Big A/C Problem Waiting to Happen
It can happen to you.
It can happen to anyone.
Unless you change or clean your air filter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Dirty air filters restrict airflow through your HVAC system.
And airflow restrictions are never a good thing! That's because your air conditioner depends on:
- Heat transfer from your home's interior to the refrigerant inside your A/C's line set
- Movement of that heat from the refrigerant to the outdoors
That's how your A/C cools your home. But when your air filter gets really dirty, it starves the refrigerant of the heat it's supposed to remove from your home.
As a result, the refrigerant stays cold – much colder than it should. When there's any moisture on the coil – and there often is! – the ultra-cold refrigerant will cause that moisture to form ice.
In other words, your indoor and outdoor coils will literally freeze up.
The system won't cool your home. The ice might even damage the coil or other system components.
Needless to say, changing your air filter on a regular basis is way cheaper than getting your A/C fixed!
Can't remember to change your filter? Fear not.
We've got you covered. If you've got a service agreement with PV, we include new 1" air filters as part of the package.
And if you're looking for better-than-standard filteration for improved indoor air quality, we can set you up with a media filter. These filters have more surface area than 1" filters and don't restric airflow nearly as much. They also don't need to be replaced every 90 days – once or twice per year does the trick.
